''My Neighbor Totoro'' has become one of the most beloved of all family films. Satsuki and her younger sister Mei move into a house with their father to be closer to their hospitalized mother. What Satsuki and Mei discover in nearby forest are magical creatures called Totoros! They soon befriend these Totoros, and have several magical adventures.
#2 Princess Mononoke
Princess Mononoke is set in the late Muromachi period (approximately 1336 to 1573) of Japan with fantasy elements. The story follows the young Emishi warrior Ashitaka's involvement in a struggle between forest gods and the humans who consume its resources. The term "Mononoke" is not a name, but a Japanese word for a spirit or monster.
#3 Spirited Away
Spirited Away won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 75th Academy Awards, the Golden Bear at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival ,and is among the top ten in the BFI list of the 50 films you should see by the age of 14. Chihiro is trapped in a forbidden world of gods and magic when her parents take her to investigate the other side of the tunnel. In order to survive, Chihiro must work and make herself useful, and find within her the courage and resolve she needs to save her parents and escape from a world where humans are despised.
#4 Castle in the Sky
A falling girl, robots, an army, pirates, an adventurous boy and princess, a rare, powerful gem, and a floating island nation all provide excitement in this story. These are all parts of a wonderful movie, Castle in the Sky, a movie that enchants its viewers and proves that you cannot always judge a book by its cover.
#5 Kiki's Delivery Service
On her 13th birthday, a young witch named Kiki must fly away from home to a new city. Accompanied by her chatty cat, Jiji, she starts a flying service and discovers lots of fun-filled escapades and meets plenty of new friends.
#6 Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
The film tells the story of Nausicaa, a young princess of the Valley of the Wind, who gets involved in a struggle with Tolmekia, a kingdom that tries to use an ancient weapon to eradicate a jungle of mutant giant insects. Nausicaa must stop the Tolmekians from enraging these creatures.
#7 Porco Rosso
Porco Rosso, Italian World War I ex-fighter ace, is now living as a freelance bounty hunter chasing "air pirates" in the Adriatic Sea. However, an unusual curse has transformed him to an anthropomorphic pig. Once called Marco Pagot (Marco Rousolini in the American version), he is now known to the world as "Porco Rosso", Italian for "Red Pig".
